You have a choice.

If we were left to our own choices the vast majority of us would choose to not harm anyone. We would go about our business and enjoy our lives, our families and the fruits of our labor. It is so unfortunate that not everyone feels that way. A culture exists that believes they can take from you what they wish, when they want, up to and including your life, property or that of a family member or friend. We do not choose to be victims of these senseless crimes but it is our choice as to whether we are prepared to defend ourselves if we are targeted. Carrying a concealed weapon is not about killing someone it's about not being killed.

There is short story by an unknown author that points these things out and says it best when he says 'I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow. I don't carry a gun because I am angry. I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared. I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate, I carry because facing three armed thugs I am in fact inadequate. I don't carry a gun because I love it, I carry because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Recent court rulings have established that the police are not legally obligated to protect you. While they truly want to and do the best they can they usually wind up investigating the crime rather than preventing it. Citizens have the responsibility to protect themselves. It is said 'If you ever need a firearm and you don't have one there is a pretty good chance you will never need one again'.
Personally I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin'.
